Staying Safe When The Shelves are Bare

If we learned anything from the pandemic lockdows its that supplies can & will run low, and that access to things like food, clothing, cleaning supplies, medical supplies, etc. can and will be restricted. We saw entire sections of stores blocked off even though goods were present. We saw waiting lines for hand sanitizer, alcohol, and baby wipes. We saw people being restricted from stores that had what they needed. Shortages and restrictions become a quick reality in a state of emergency, or in any lockdown situation…or in a weakened economy.

We have daily needs for our families that must be met. Our tolerance for not having those needs met vary, but are relativley short when we have children or others dependent on our abilities to provide. The longer shortages last, the greater the desperation, and the greater the rise in violence as people do whatever is necessary to feed and care for themselves and their families. The most documented studies on this involve Venezuela, where the government actions brought about shortages, which resulted in a rapid and ongoing increase in violence among its citizens.

Many prep, but most dont. If you prep, and have a supply necessary to support your family for an extended period, there is a very real possibility you could become a target of those that dont. If your prepping plan does not include security, and circles of alliance, then you are highly vulnerable. If you cant defend it, then its not yours.

Prepping needs to include more than food & supplies. You need to be prepping yourself, and your family. You need to have the capability to defend your family, and all it has to survive. Security systems help, but can be easily be defeated without power. Alliances are important as friends and family members mean greater resources and provide strength through numbers. Know your neighbors, the capabilities (or lack of), and dispositions. Can you rely on each other, or are they potentially someone who may be coming through your door in the night?

There are many facets of preparing for supply shortages, which are becoming increasingly realistic in our world. Hopefully these possibilities fade soon as people are activley seeking solutions, but just in case….Stock up, make a plan, and learn the skills it takes to keep yourselves and your families safe from those who may not be as ready as you are, but who are more than willing to bring violence to your door to get what they need.
